EXTINGUISHER IDENTIFICATION

-The future of bar coding-

   The Direct Method has been developed to simplify and identify extinguishers and their parts by:

  1. Applying a letter code to each type of material           
    W= Water    A= ABC    S= BC    C=CO2 
     
  2. Classifying extinguishers into two types
    P= Pressurized Type        K= Cartridge or non pressurized type
     
  3. Extinguisher capacity is expressed in terms of capacity using 2 digits
    02= 2 lbs    03= 3 lbs    10= 10 lbs
     
  4. Applying a code number to each manufacturer
    01= Amerex    02= Ansul    03= Badger/Pyrene
     

   Typical identification is thus expressed as follows:

        AP10        -        06        -        90

            |                       |                      |---- Year of manufacture

            |                       |------------ Manufacturer code (Flag)

            |----------------------Material (ABC) Type (Pressure) Capacity (10 lbs)

Correspondingly parts are identified and controlled using the exploded view of Direct Method in this manner:
